Medusa Hand Dipped Beeswax Ritual Candles
Medusa Hand Dipped Beeswax Ritual Candles
Deepest blue midnight sky. Fields of rock rose and blue cornflowers. Salt spray from the ocean. Craggy cliffs where dittany grows. This is what I imagine Medusa saw when she was exiled to Sarpedon. I didn’t find many associations for her that didn’t pander to her as an evil Gorgon, so I tried to see her world in isolation as she might have. With a little digging I found herbs and plants that she likely would have encountered on her island; Dittany of Crete, rosemary, rock rose, sage, thyme, oregano. To these I added geranium and olibanum, thinking she would smell herbaceous and maybe a little resinous and sweet from brushing against the rock rose from her walks around her lonely island.
Deciding on a color that would either represent her or please her was challenging; people associate her with green because Gorgons are sometimes green, but I wanted more depth and when I think of her I think of deep blue night skies; maybe she’s standing above the shore looking across the ocean under a blanket of stars, the wind swirling around her, waves crashing below. That’s how I like to think of her.
These candles are hand dipped. Each pair of candles is unique.
DO NOT LEAVING CANDLES BURNING UNATTENDED. Candles must be placed on a heatproof surface and wicks must be kept trimmed to 1/4 inch to prevent uneven burning and to prevent herbs from burning.
