Litha Handmade Beeswax Candles

$23.00

Prairie Fire's Litha Handmade Beeswax Ritual candles are crafted as a celebration of Midsummer, the Summer Solstice, the longest day and the shortest night of the year. Litha is an ancient celebration of fertility, an acknowledgement of agricultural achievements, and the beginning of the dark half of the year and was observed as far back as the Iron Age. Bonfires were lit in sacred spots, holy wells were visited, and livestock and fields were blessed. In Celtic mythology, Litha marks the fight between the Oak King and the Holly King; the Holly King inevitably winning, while the Goddess, full with child, watches on.

Our Litha candle honors this solar holy day with the flowers and herbs that represent the battling twin brother kings, and the herbs and flowers that bloom at the height of summer. These include rose petals, oak leaves, calendula, holly leaves and berries, mistletoe, basil flowers, red clover, red raspberry, rosemary, magnolia flowers, bee balm and many others harvested or foraged in the Texas countryside.

DO NOT LEAVE LIT CANDLES UNATTENDED. When lit, candles should be placed on a heat proof surface. Wicks should be kept trimmed to 1/4 inch to promote even burning and to prevent the herbs from igniting.

Prairie Fire's beeswax candles are individually hand dipped, using only natural materials. Each candle is unique and there may be some variation in color and appearance. The candles measure approximately 8 inches long.
