Hedge Rider Flying Ointment
Hedge Rider Flying Ointment
Flying Ointments are an herbal preparation of psychoactive and non-psychoactive plants infused in fat and sometimes thickened with beeswax. These ointments are used to allow us to enter into altered consciousness where we can open the doors of perception to allow us to see and experience things we can’t see in our normal waking lives. Flying ointments can aid us in dreamwork, astral travel, deepening our relationships to spirits and deity, communing with the plant and animal worlds, and intensifying ritual experiences. Flying ointments can also aid in healing from traumas and from physical aches and pains.
This flying ointment contains plants from the Solonaceae family, along with my preferred blend of other traditional and non-traditional herbs. Prepared on the dark moon of August 2021, this blend contains mugwort, wormwood, hemp flowers, datura, brugmansia, dittany of Crete, clary sage, damiana, skullcap, vervain, white sage, balm of Gilead, and mandrake root preserved with benzoin in olive oil and beeswax. I grew or foraged many of these plants and all are organic or grown in pesticide-free areas.
Using your flying ointment: Setting is important. I like to dim the lights, find a quiet spot where I can lie prone, listen to ritualistic music, and light candles and incense. I also find that meditating to calm my mind is helpful. You may choose to set an intention, but be aware that these plants will take you where they want to take you.
Start with a pea-sized amount of ointment. Apply to the soles of your feet and cover with socks, or apply to your chest or the back of your neck. Be careful not to get any in your eyes or mouth. Wait 30 minutes to gauge your reaction, applying more if you would like to intensify your experience. I find that using about a teaspoon to a tablespoon of flying ointment is my threshold, but everyone will experience these plants differently. Please be aware that these are powerful plants and can be extremely unpleasant if too much is used. Start with less and work your way up. An allergy test should always be done when applying herbal preparations to your skin.
What to expect: You may first feel giggly and a little intoxicated. As time passes you may feel euphoric or dreamy and you should feel relaxed. Because some of these plants are soporifics, you may feel pleasantly tired and you may wish to drift off to sleep. Many people experience vivid or lucid dreams in this state.
Each tin contains approximately 22-24 grams of flying ointment. Please keep in a cool place to avoid melting.
DO NOT CONSUME. KEEP OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN AND PETS. DO NOT USE IF ALLERGIC TO ASPIRN (BALM OF GILEAD CONTAINS SALICIN)
